God I miss Jack Nicholson
Dear Blog Diary,
My favorite movie of all time would be Enter the Dragon starring my childhood hero, the icon that is Bruce Lee, as well as “kick you in the belly like” Jim Kelly.
My second favorite movie of all time would be As Good As It Gets starring the legend Jack Nicholson and the brilliant Helen Hunt. This is where the Oscars fall apart for me.
I do have a lot of respect for the Oscars in the 90s. Legendary movies left and right that were simply amazing works of art. Nowadays you have to speak on an issue, political or otherwise. And don’t you dare go up to accept that award without making a political statement.
In the year 1998, As Good As It Gets was nominated for many awards. Best actor winner, Jack. Best actress winner, Helen. The film also won for best screen play (And let’s be honest, I’ve not yet seen a great example that could compete with such absolutely perfect dialogue in that film).
Best picture: Titanic
You mean to tell me, that movie had the best actor, the best actress, and the best story but it’s not the best movie? Why? I give them that Titanic had the best cinematography and that’s one hell of an important award but truly other than that…what? Costume? The only thing I hands down will never knock Titanic for would be for blessing the entire universe with the immaculate some might say euphoric pipes of Celine Dion making us all believe that Jack Dawson’s heart will go on.
Oscars, I say to you: Old grey mare just ain’t what she used to be.
Cheers,
E
