Save or kill....
Dear Blog Diary,
I’m going to play the Save or Kill poll created by Collider. They asked a bunch of actors these questions during film press tours. You get to save one of two things, and the other one doesn’t only die, they never existed. We try not to get too carried away with “never existed.” Example: Backstreet Boys or N’Sync. If you save Backstreet then you never get N’Sync thus you never get Justin Timberlake thus you never get Alpha Dog and his solo work. I digress.
Star Wars or Star Trek
I save Star Trek. It goes without saying that I love some outer space samurai. My father loves Star Trek. I grew up on Next Generation and Deep Space Nine.
The Wire or Mad Men
I save Mad Men. I have to admit that I’m a total schmuck and I’ve never seen The Wire. However, I absolutely love Mad Men. I should mention that I loved advertising before Mad Men came out but that’s a damn good show. Last season gets meh.
Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad
I save Breaking Bad. Couple different reasons. Game of Thrones is not finished yet where Breaking Bad has. I’m going to need therapy after GOT finishes but we will see. I save Breaking Bad specifically for two reasons. First, in my opinion the character development of Walter White is the most magnificent I’ve ever seen in history besides maybe Clayton Bigsby the Black White Supremist. Secondly, Breaking Bad did not give a fuck about popularity and making money. Breaking Bad said that they have a story to tell, it takes five seasons. We don’t care how popular the show gets or how much money we can make if we string it out for more seasons…five seasons and done. And that is why Breaking Bad is damn good until the very last drop.
Zelda or Mario
I save Zelda. Better stories, with weapons and Link to the Past kind of consumed a year of my life.
Han Solo or Indiana Jones
I save Indy. Sidebar: One of the great tragedies of life that I will never quite understand is why oh why did they not keep Short Round for the remainder of the trilogy? I’ve accepted it.
The Beatles or The Rolling Stones
I save The Rolling Stones. This tends to be the generation gap. Generally young people prefer The Beatles with their happy lovey dovey peace songs. Older generations love the grit of the Stones. If I’m being honest, I would trade all of The Beatles songs just for “Beast of Burden.”
Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings
I save LOTR.
Iron Man or Captain America
I save my dad, the Iron Man Tony Stark.
N’Sync or Backstreet Boys
I save Backstreet Boys. I want it that way.
Twillight or 50 Shades of Grey
Who cares. But I would save Twillight just so I wouldn’t have to live with the knowledge that my mother read 50 shades.
Alfred or Yoda
I save Alfred. You’re offended. Here’s my rationale. You have to understand that Yoda is the strongest wisest Jedi to ever live, but primary role in the original Star Wars trilogy was to train Luke to fight Vader. Luke had already been trained by Obi Wan and he had already fought Vader and lived to tell the tale. He would’ve probably been just fine without him. I mean hell, he only beat Vader because he got super pissed and let the tiger out the cage. Now Alfred, he didn’t really “teach” Batman anything. Alfred cared for Bruce Wayne since the day he was born. Bruce was trained by the League of Shadows so he would’ve became the bad ass crime fighting force that we all know and love but Alfred kept Bruce’s humanity/soul intact. He is the reason Bruce became Batman.
Scorcese or Spielberg
I save Scorcese. Spielberg has such a super deep resume but Marty’s work moves me more. Homie makes nothing but gangster films. I can’t give enough respect.
DC or Marvel
I save Marvel. There will never be a superhero trilogy to top Christopher Nolan’s work and there will never be a performance to top Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker. That being said, Marvel’s entire franchise shows a vision that is damn near incomprehensible.
Back to the Future or Ghostbusters
I save Back to the Future. Part two is the best sequel to ever be created in my opinion. Better than Godfather part two.
The Sopranos or Walking Dead
I save the Sopranos. I haven’t seen it but Walking Dead needs to be stopped. Dope show but let it die.
Michael Jackson or Prince
I save Prince. Little. Red. Corvette.
Batman or Superman
I obviously save Batman.
Cheers,
Eric
