Aoi Tenjou

A Japanese expression which translates to “blue ceiling.” The ceiling is blue like the sky, thus, like we say in English, “The sky is the limit.”

Regrettably, I made the wise decision to not even attempt the Flying Pig Marathon. Simply, I overtrained and my achilles has been on fire, more than usual. It goes against the core of who I am to not try, but I’m not going to fuck up my triathlon season. It would be different if I was healthy and didn’t try. It might also be beneficial if I didn’t define healthy as “being able to run 26.2 miles.”

Reality is, it’s a failure on my part.

A beautiful girl lounges on the beach everyday. A young man has the idea that he will impress her by making a beautiful sand castle which she will marvel. He builds a perfectly symmetrical tower fit for a queen. She looks over, him standing there with a big smile, and she scoffs and turns her head to look away.

The next day, he builds a two story castle. It’s elegant and perfectly designed. He gets her attention, standing there, big smile. She once again scoffs and turns her head.

The next day he wakes up at dawn and spends the entire day sculpting what might be the most magnificent sand castle ever created, an intricate cathedral. She arrives, he stands, and she turns her head.

The man approaches her and says “Hi. I built all of these to get your attention. I find you wildly attractive and I so excited to meet you.” She replies, “I can tell” as she turns away. Not knowing what she meant and why she is so rude, he asks if he did something wrong.

“You know this isn’t a nudist beach right?”

One of my mottos since I’ve come back to Cinci has been, “I’m all talked out.” I loveeee the planning process. Define the target, design a plan of progress and account for obstacles. Be flexible in the execution but, do it. I’m all talked out. Love to talk about the journey, not so big on talking about the shit you want to do. They're not the same thing.

Aoi Tenjou. We can do so much. We fail along the way. Sometimes we have blind spots on how to even get better.

You get one life. Improvise, but don't overtrain.
