Thoughts on Trump/Biden

Dear Blog Diary,

“How did it all come to this?” - King Theoden, LOTR

I sat there watching the presidential debate thinking, “how the fuck did we get here?” Both candidates. I’ve become desensitized to the circus around Trump. Just all of it. I don’t even really knock him for saying wild shit anymore because the people that follow him will believe anything. Ante up baby. And Joey Joey Joey. I really did see a senile old man and they are pushing him to play the game. It's a good thing that presidents aren't allowed to drive in public.

Then I thought to myself, I don’t care. More so, I was actually tuning in to be entertained. That’s pretty messed up.

I thought back at, in my opinion the last truely decent presidential election between the real Maverick, John McCain and one of the coolest, most admirable dudes ever, Obama. I cared. I believed.

I remembered while McCain was on his campaign, he was booed at his own rally for calling Obama, “a decent man.” That's his own party. A woman said she can’t trust Obama and called him, “an Arab.”

John responded: “No ma’am. He’s a decent, family-man citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that’s what this campaign is all about. He’s not. Thank you.” Then he walked away.

Where did that integrity go? How did we go from that to this circus?

Last weekend I had the absolute pleasure of doing some of the bourbon trail with my brother, my best human friend, and his older brother. These men are my brothers, just the one by blood. Met Ofori when I was 8. All went to grade school together. I actually couldn’t remember the last time we were all four of us in the same room.

I’m incredibly grateful to have people like these in my life. I hope you reach out to the ones in yours today. Things change so much in life and sometimes not for the better, or so it seems. And for some things, you can’t put the toothpaste back in the bottle. Embrace it, because it can also be wildly fucking entertaining.

Be decent, everyone.

Best,

E
