Blog

My blog consisting of my mind written out with zero regard to what anyone thinks. No conversations. Simply my mind.

Never got lost. Just found a longer road to take.

Dear Blog Diary,

I miss Bourdain a little more than usual lately.

He means so much to me, even years later. I relate to his curiosity and romance and old school style. If you thought I was going to say adventure, my skin is ready to recoil.

Hate this word, adventure. Oxford defines it as “an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity.” Nothing in that definition has anything to do with stepping out of your house, and yet we associate it with hiking paved trails that thousands have already hiked or going to some country where people already live.

I have mixed feelings on travel. At its best, it’s top 5 best things you can do. It goes without saying, it’s your life. Do you. The question I always wonder and ask myself, are you running away from something or running towards it?

My best example in my life is Japan. I want to have a tea ceremony, sumo match, judo match, fish market, high end sushi, knife shop called Aritsugu, kimono shopping, and recently, there’s a baby boy I’d like to meet. I long to run to that place for so many reasons.

Sometimes people just wanna go to a beach I suppose. That’s cool.

I remember a friend during covid, she really went through it because she couldn’t travel. I get the longing for the road but if you struggle because you can’t escape your life every month, that’s called a boring person. And worse, she couldn't post about it! What a tragedy!

I admit that for the past 3 years or so, I’m a completely new person compared to who I was, noticeably. Ironically I haven’t traveled much in those years. Interesting.

You know the thing about Nemo? He was a tiny insignificant fish. Had to find his ass across a fuckin ocean. He was thrusted into a wild world he knew nothing about and was completely alone.

You know the thing about Nemo? He saved Dory in the second movie.

Take even the most thirst-depraved man, in the desert, baking in the sun. He will never long for water more than a fish. At the same time, the fish will never appreciate the water more than the man.

That’s how I feel about travel.
