Good Boy — A horror story
Dear Blog Diary,
“When the blind man sees, he will throw away the stick that has helped him all his life.” - Unknown
So this trailer for the movie Good Boy has me fascinated.
In a nutshell, horror movie like paranormal activity but shot from the perspective of the dog. Or rather, the dog is the main character. Check out the trailer.
So in the first John Wick, John kills 77 people on screen and that’s the lowest of the four films. Not only do we not care, we want to see that. You killed that man’s dog, everybody’s gotta die.
That’s how much we love dogs.
We desensitize our sense of reality in action movies. Police cars blow up chasing the villain, neglecting that those officers have families.
We go into a mindless trance of entertainment while the plot armor stays intact. Our hero gets shot, it’s a blood stain. The henchmen gets punched and he’s out cold, never gets up.
More to the point, all of this is why we show up to action movies. We want to see the violence and the guns, the car chases, the fight, explosions…action.
For this movie Good Boy, we go into the horror movie NOT wanting to see the horror. We don’t want to see this dog possessed, hurting itself. We don’t want to see the dog scared.
Yet if Michael Myers doesn’t kill somebody, you’d feel cheated.
I say all this to say…
If I went blind, if my sight came back, in a horror movie — I would never leave Kuma. She means more to me than anything in my life.
Unless maybe John Wick comes for me. In that case make sure Kuma sees the body. I don’t want her to think I abandoned her.
Oh come on that’s a little funny.
Best,
E
