Let Christmas begin

Dear Blog Diary,
Hallelujah we made it again!

The day after Thanksgiving is when I shut it down. Victory formation. The year is done and it’s time to lock in for Christmas. Life slows down, holiday spirit kicks in, time for reflection, and most importantly, plan for the next year.

I don’t care much for 2024. More than usual, I’ve failed a whole bunch and had spectacular lows. Came home to Cinci yet lost my place in the world. Funny how that goes. Hawaii was kinda perfect.

I like to think of it in terms of self-external validation. If your life was a show and you were watching, would you like your character? Imagine watching as not you. Is the story worth paying attention to? A comedy? A drama? How’s the cast?

Society and the Internet are never short of reasons to think you suck. Everyone keeps asking, “why are you so hard on yourself??”

I went to an improv show a couple weeks ago. They were about to do a scene and they asked the audience to name a place. Someone in the crowd goes, “The Philippines!” The performer responds, “Maybe somewhere a little more specific.”

I yell out, “Manila!”

I was pretty proud of myself for that one. You have to really ride those moments where you feel distinguishably like yourself.

So if no one has told you yet, well done. We made it. Ups and downs and maybe limping but we keep it moving.

Christmas is not an arbitrary time of year to make someone else feel like the world isn’t so shitty.

Right now is.
