My blog consisting of my mind written out with zero regard to what anyone thinks. No conversations. Simply my mind.

Bob was right, times they are a changin'

Dear Blog Diary,
It was some time in my early-mid 20s that I remember Nam-Kha was watching an Arsenal futbol match live from his phone. I thought it was such a hoot. What will they think of next?!

Within my lifetime, seen CDs basically come and gone, DVDs as well for the most part, and I’d like to say RIP to speaking to women at gyms, ever, for any reason. I don’t care if she’s on fire. You let her burn to death or let someone else tell her. Stay safe out there and keep your eyes locked on the biggest dude in the gym. Mine is Connor. He’s lovely.

Break DJs suck nowadays. (I mean DJs that play music for break dancers at breaking jams).

I like Zerg. He has the right mentality, great style, selection, and grasp of being the maestro to the room.

Back in my day (ahh I’m old), it was “secret drum break number 5”. I know the name of the song now, but before shazaam and YouTube searches, that was a Skeme signature track and he hid the name on the record with tape. Just “secret drum break number 5.” He would only play the song in the finals of the competition and it was purely this that motivated me to get to the final, Lance too. Not the money, the glory, winning.

Of course, often the realest ones at the jam don’t win the competition so at that point, all of Section 31 would bum rush the cyphers when that song came on.  It was literally the only time I ever got to dance to it.

I could sing Skeme’s praises for days but it is stories like this that make this man a legend and someone I deeply appreciate in my development as an artist. I asked him so many times for the name of the song and with his grand wisdom, he never told me. Instead he gave me a mystery that I wish I cherished more in the moment. I don’t get that anymore.

To this day Skeme has never told me his real name. I know it now, because Metal told me after he looked at Skeme’s credit card. It’s actually my grandfather’s middle name. I really hope I never find out Zerg’s real name. I bet it’s Bradley or something lame.

Just a reminder to cherish things in life, because you don’t know what you have now that you will miss in ten years.

Appreciate the mystery and let go of the need to know.

You might miss that too.

Best,
E
