My blog consisting of my mind written out with zero regard to what anyone thinks. No conversations. Simply my mind.

Get in where you fit in

Dear Blog Diary,

They say “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” but that’s not true.

Go even further, the enemy of your friend isn’t your enemy.

I’ve learned this about myself over the years:

I’m always welcome to the cookout, but I’m never actually part of the family.

Always welcome, always good to see me. Fix me a plate of that bird, tater salad, that Mac. Lot to catch up on and good times to be had.

It’s equally true that if I was wiped off the face of this earth, it would take at least a couple weeks before anyone would notice. I call my mother every day. She probably would.

I am in zero group chats that are actually used regularly. What’s it like when you take those 10 people vacations?

There’s a calm strength there. I’ve said for a long time: Be the Avengers, not the X-men. Thor finds himself alone, he still gunna fuck shit up. What is cyclops gunna do??

Truth is, it feels good knowing I’m welcome in so many circles.

These people don’t know this:

Kwame is an absolute unit. Had an 8-pack since birth and doesn’t have to try. Damn good looking guy who’s kinda got it all. And when he tells me I’m a good looking guy, it builds me up so much.

Elaina who actually reads every one of these, just the fact that she gets something out of my writing and has complimented my storytelling - I feel so tall.

Just about any time anyone thinks I’m 27. That one I admit I’ve become arrogant over the years. My brother is 40 and looks 25.

You’re going to have those who fill your cup. You’re going to have those who delight in your failure. That’s just you. Then add the world.

Am I to hate those who my friends hate? Am I to trust people who hate those who hate me? Is that your definition of loyalty?

Things get murky.

“Not everyone who hurts you is your enemy and not everyone who helps you is your friend.” - tweaked a Mike Tyson quote

The real enemy is you. The real friend is you.

Best to know who you’re dealing with.

Best,

E
