Dear Blog Diary,

Fitness check:  I pulled my hamstring about a month ago. Had tendinitis in my left elbow for about six months now. Then I’ve been nursing a tweak in my right shoulder for over two weeks.

No climbing. No triathlon. Keep in mind I’m in the height of the building phase of my first Ironman camp.

Imagine going from doing 2-3 hours of cardio a day…the mental fortitude to do that too! Like I like waking up and knowing I gotta do 3 hours on the bike. But then it gets taken away from you when you pull your hamstring.

Laid up for a month. I want to swim bike run.

The thing you find out is that you take for granted the community aspect of it. The blood flow, the endorphins, using your body. Sure. You miss that.

What you don’t realize is the people you see everyday. The A-squad as I refer to them. Not even being strong, although they are. It’s the fact that at any given Sunday at any time, you will see one of them in the gym.

Picture Cheers where everyone knows your name, but also wants nice abs and PRs.

Joey Swole shit baby. But it’s true.

You find out these people work different jobs than you, have different cultures than you, but they all love improvement.

Keep in mind, I’m a tri-athlete. I lift, but I’ll take the track over bench any day. But I lift consistently. I show up. A-squad.

I say all this to say, yes to some extent looking good naked will always be a part of this, but it’s the people.

Come back from an injury having people missing you, wondering what’s up, being part of your rehab. Waking up knowing people care that you show up.

I’m very grateful. It doesn’t escape me.

The exact same could be said about my homies at Queen City Radio my local bar. Regulars.

When you’re low, meh have a drink.

But when you need to push, hit the gym.

Both are essential.

Best,

E
