How I celebrate my birthday
Dear Blog Diary,
“I’m older than you think I am.” - me, admittedly arrogantly. I’m such a schmuck but I love when it happens.
So windmills are a break dancing move. The one when you’re spinning and turning on the ground, whipping with both legs. Yeah.
Breaking is just hard on the body. Very unnatural. It gets you into weird positions and then you need the agility to groove. Then you have to make it look good.
Breaking stamina is different too. Breathing, explosiveness. How often do you have a heart rate of 175 in a push up position??? Ok…other than sex...if you’re doing it right.
I check every year at my birthday if I can still do windmills. Past years it’s been extra tough. I tend to have a triathlon in September so my body is rocked.
Every year gets harder. More maintenance, diet, and my body just changes. Fatter now than I was at 28, in general just thicker frame. Things ache more easily.
It’s not certain I can do windmills every year. And I go off of one shot. If you can do them in 3-5 tries, ok but if you’re in a battle and you need to throw down, can you in the moment?
Every year I wonder, was last year the last time I could do them? Because one day, I won’t be able to. Just don’t know when.
Eventually we lose everything.
To those who have lost a parent, my deepest sympathy. You remember the specific day mom/dad passed. Everything changed and you’ll never hug them again.
Thing is, you’ve already done things for the last time.
For most of us, we woke up mom and dad on Christmas at 7am and rushed downstairs with glee.
At some point for whatever reason, you stopped doing that. Nothing stopped you. Just happened.
Most importantly, you didn’t even realize in the moment that you were doing it for the last time.
You gotta cherish the present. I beg you.
No one knows what’s next. Never know what you got til it’s gone. Everything will change, including you.
The fear of not doing something should outweigh the fear of doing it.
Prioritize, protect, water grass.
Don’t get consumed by the bullshit.
I think that along with being half Asian is how you look younger.
Best,
E
